What We’re Reading

Amazon dives into the buy-now-pay-later space in the US
Amazon has inked a partnership with Affirm to offer American consumers installment payments on purchases over $50; Amazon already partners with Zip in Australia. The New York Times reports that the payment option is being tested with select US customers now and will become more broadly available to shoppers in the coming months.

Investor appetite for private-label mortgage bonds grows
The Wall Street Journal reports that issuance for private-label MBS reached over $42 billion in the second quarter, the most since the pandemic started and almost the most for any quarter since the last financial crisis. Growth is attributed to investors’ confidence that loans are higher-quality than the type issued before the housing crisis.
